Common Plant Problems: Botrytis

Botrytis cinerea, often referred to as grey mould, is a fungus that infects more than 200 plant species. It is a common problem, affecting many popular houseplants such as Cyclamen and Saintpaulia (African Violets).  


What causes Botrytis? 

Damp, poor air circulation and excessive humidity are the ideal conditions for Botrytis to form. Unfortunately, it is in the winter, when plants are indoors and fresh air is less likely to circulate, that Botrytis thrives.
