Interflora are using the newly expanded Good Florist Event to launch their brand new, industry wide, open to all Interflora Florist of the Year Competition that kicks off in November this year.
What’s more, they’ll be running a free Competition Workshop at GFE to show just what’s involved so that anyone interested in entering the competition world can gain some valuable advice and guidance.
Run by the UK Floristry Judges Guild, and led by Julia Ryde and Sarah Hills-Ingyon, the two-hour, interactive taster session will cover the tricks and tips that will get your points higher, the inside track on how the judges mind works, what to look out for when reading a schedule so you don’t lose points and how to photograph your entries for best effect. And with some of the top UK judges on hand to help answer any other questions you may have, it’s a unique opportunity to learn from the experts.
Part of Interflora’s plans to work with the whole florist sector, the Interflora Florist of the Year Competition will be launched with photographic entries, moving on to a real time semi-final in April 2022 and culminating in a grand finale in July 2022. From there the winner will go on to represent the UK & Ireland in the 2023 Interflora World Cup being hosted in the UK for the first time.
Commenting on the move Nick Priest, Director of Interflora Services told us: “Floristry needs to showcase just how much skill is involved in making bespoke designs.
Competitions are the perfect way to achieve this but with fewer opportunities available for florists, particularly young florists, to compete, Interflora decided to expand what we’ve done in the past and make it open to everyone … irrespective of whether they are an Interflora member or not. We are really excited to see how many new competitors we can get involved.”
How to take part
There are two Workshops being held on Sunday 17th October at the Worsley Marriott Hotel and Country Club, Manchester.
They run morning and afternoon (10 – 12 and 2 – 4) and spaces are limited to make sure everyone gets time to talk and interact.
Taking part in the workshops is completely free but the Good Florist Event organisers have created an exclusive half day delegate rate for Workshop attendees if you want to join in the Conference morning or afternoon sessions and make a great day out.
