Waste: a great subject because none of us like it; whether it be money, stock, energy or time.
The most obvious aspect of waste in a flower shop is throwing away stems that should have generated a profit. I liken this to opening my purse and pouring the contents into the bin. No business owner should be under the illusion that there won’t be any wastage, but minimising that waste is key.
Inspection of stock upon arrival is paramount for catching potential waste early. Is the stock fresh and fit for purpose? Have you received everything you ordered? These are immediate questions that can avoid monetary waste, simply by requesting a credit from your wholesaler.
