In the vibrant world of floristry, inspiration often springs from unexpected sources. One such source is the world of fashion.
Both fashion and floristry celebrate beauty, colour and form, making them naturally work together. What we see in floristry trends, has often derived from trend predictions in fashion and lifestyle. Equally we often see the inspiration for fabrics and style of clothing influenced by flowers and foliage. This synergy between fashion and floristry can offer us new, fresh ideas to elevate our skill and expertise to captivate our customers.
Fashion and flowers share a common language of aesthetics and emotion.
Just as a fashion designer uses fabrics, textures, and silhouettes to craft a collection, we florists and floral designers use blooms, foliage and arrangements to tell a story. Here are a few ways we can draw inspiration from fashion:
Colour Palettes
Just as fashion designers unveil seasonal collections, we florists can align our arrangements with trending colour palettes. For instance, Pantone’s Colour of the Year often influences both fashion and floral trends. I have recently filmed a video for the Floristry Trade Club, showcasing this year’s Pantone colour and how we can use this to dress our windows, our social media posts and enhance our marketing plans….and this can be done every year! Pantone market and unveil their new Pantone Colour of the Year in spectacular style.
