It’s Competition Time!
Floral Bins and Lamp Posts, two everyday items that you wouldn't necessarily expect to set the creative juices flowing, but the florists who were competing at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show rose to the occasion. Adding to their challenge was the RHS’s ban on using floral foam for environmental reasons, so the usual mechanics had to be rethought.
Floral Bins
These were in fact recycled oil drums painted black, so providing a completely blank canvas to work with.
Some entries were very straightforward, such as Lara Thorpe’s Purple Passion (awarded a Silver-gilt medal), which simply used the metal bin as a huge floral vase, with foraged branches providing the necessary structure to support the therapeutic colour scheme of purple and lilac.
