Now a seemingly permanent fixture at Chelsea Flower Show, this year there were seven Houseplant Studios in the leafy surroundings of the Ranelagh Gardens to inspire, intrigue and educate the indoor gardener. Whether quirky, retro, sustainable or traditional, there was a plant for everyone.
The studios were overflowing with imaginative themes and creative designs, no more so than Plants by There, curated by James Whiting, whose retro plant sanctuary ‘Verdant Visions’ was straight out of the 1970s, complete with avocado bathroom suite, bright orange walls and disco ball. On the sustainability front, The Little Botanical were able to demonstrate that growing indoor plants in peat free compost is becoming ever more attainable as every plant in their ‘Plants with Soul’ studio was not only peat free but UK Grown too. The Plant Warehouse with ‘Upcycled Botanica’ were also making good use of discarded or overlooked household items which could be transformed into affordable and unique pieces for the home.
