The charming common name of Granny’s Bonnet is an accurate description of the slim, delicate Aquilegia which, due to the continued interest in UK grown, is having a resurgence in popularity. Its flower is a central bell-shaped bloom surrounded by a ring of petals with a distinctive spur on the back. This spur gave rise to its botanical name, ‘aquila’ is Latin for eagle, as the spurs represent the talons of this predatory bird.
