A cottage garden classic
Pretty and delicate, but in reality more hardy than they look, Campanula, whose name comes from the Latin for ‘little bell’ are a diverse range of plants, from small, creeping alpines to tall flowering spikes.
Not all Campanulas grow well indoors, but there is one variety which is commonly sold as an indoor or conservatory plant , Campanula portenschlagiana, also known by its slightly more pronounceable common name, the Dalmatian bell flower, native to the Dalmatian mountains in Croatia. This small-flowered Campanula is ideal for adding a burst of colour to planted containers and baskets, and after flowering in the house, can be planted outside where it will return year after year.
