Helianthus
Bold, bright and universally loved, sunflowers, or Helianthus, take their name from the Latin ‘Helios’ meaning sun and ‘Anthos,’ flower.
Not just imported, but also grown in the UK, their peak availability season is July – November. Sunflower petals can be pale yellow to deep red, but rich gold is the most recognisable. They are all characterised though by their chestnut brown, velvety centres.
