Spring flowers such as lilac, forsythia and viburnum are an essential part of the seasonal palette. These taller flowers, unlike their shorter counterparts, are woody stemmed which can sometimes result in a shorter vase life unless properly conditioned.

Woody stems in general:
Use secateurs or a good, sharp knife to cut about 2cm off the bottom of the stem at an angle.
Place in deep, tepid water and add specialist shrub food if provided.
