Unusual flower and foliage combinations that really work



I’m sure we all remember the days of the colour wheel, when we were learning our trade and the horror of our tutor if we ever put two very different and jarring colours together: an instant fail!

I can happily say that the sphere in which I learnt about floristry seems to have gone for good. In the realms of social media and Instagram in particular a new world has opened up and it’s just fabulous. I personally have always loved colours that clash such as cerise pink and orange, or red and purple but, to my eye, tone is incredibly important. I cannot take a mix of two warring shades of pink for instance; the blue-toned pink of say chrysanthemums mixed with the red-toned pink of “Kimsey” germini, so I try very hard in my odd mixtures to avoid ‘bad’ tones.
