Both evergreen and deciduous, Viburnum is a popular shrub for landscaping and is also used extensively in floristry. It’s in the spring though that one of the prettiest of the group takes centre stage, and that is Viburnum opulus, also called the Guelder Rose or Snowball tree.

V. opulus is unmistakable with its large, nodding, spherical heads, made up of lots of tiny, lime green flowers. A deciduous plant, in its natural habitat it can grow up to 5m, although florists recognise it as neatly cut lengths with straight woody stems.

Availability: November -June, peaking January-May.  Vase Life: 5-7 days.
